My dog Ella had ruptured her cruciate ligament and needed a big op called a tplo. Our everyday vet did xrays on the Wednesday, referred us to the Grove on Thursday. The Grove called us within an hour and she had the op on the Friday morning, 3 weeks ago now.
The reception staff are lovely and chatty. The surgeon really knew his stuff and spent half an hour explaining everything to me. The only thing I didn't like was that he didn't even say hello or stroke Ella. Our everyday vet is wonderful at putting Ella at ease as she is nervous, so I noticed the lack of this caring side. It in no way detracts from his skill and knowledge which was excellent .
The op went well, and the surgeon called me and explained how everything went in detail.
I called up out of hours to see how she was, and the nurse was lovely and reassured me she was OK overnight.
Ella came home the next day, Saturday, and the discharge nurse was lovely and very thorough. A really useful discharge information pack was given to take home.
The following week, I spoke twice to the surgeon who is taking over Ella's care as was just a bit worried. He was great and spent ages talking to me. No charge!
She's due back for post op xrays and a consultation in 2 weeks, which is all included in the price of the op.
Yes, it was expensive at just over £4k, luckily the Grove were happy to claim directly from my insurance which saved me from having to find a large sum of money. However, the price includes all post op checks and care. No more expensive than any other orthopaedic surgery in a top notch animal hospital.
The Grove overall was excellent, other than my slight moan about lack of interaction with Ella by the surgeon.
Would highly recommend The Grove Animal Hospital. Very skilled surgeons, lovely vets, nurses and reception staff. Ella is recovering very well, and this is due to the excellent skill of the surgeon, and help and advice on how I can help her recover
