About

Millcroft Vets Cockermouth is the central hub of an independently owned, XLVets-affiliated practice group in Cumbria with a history dating to the 1920s. It holds Cat Friendly Clinic status and provides 24-hour emergency cover for the entire six-branch network, including weekend consultations.

As the main site, Cockermouth offers the broadest clinical capability, with cardiology, orthopaedics, endoscopy, diagnostic imaging and laser therapy alongside routine services. The practice covers small animals, equines, farm livestock and exotics, reflecting its mixed rural and companion animal caseload.

I recently had the very unpleasant duty of taking my old, poorly and dearly loved schnauzer to be put down at Millcrofts and although there were many tears, the vet Katie and nurse Caitlin and receptionists (I’m sorry to say I didn’t catch there name) were very professional and caring and made the whole experience bearable and calm. There was a special room outside the main reception especially for this difficult time which was most appreciated and I was even sent a condolence card which was lovely. Thank you so much

Husband 1st took our middle aged cat to Maryport and after a through check her case was transferred to Cockermouth. Both branches are excellent and all relatable tests were carried out very quickly. Our lovely cat had to stay in overnight for extra fluids and observations. We have thorough confidence in Millcrofts and have been a client now for almost 20 years. Never been disappointed in their treatment of our beloved cats. Their service is second to none. Very impressed.

First time at millcroft vets today after moving from the south and I’m so pleasantly impressed by the level of care and service by the lovely vet we saw today. She really cared for my dog and made her feel comfortable in a time of pain. Front of house ladies were equally as kind and you can really see the love for animals by all the members of staff at millcroft vets cockermouth.
