About

Vetrica is an independent small animal practice based in Dunfermline, Fife, recently relocated to larger premises in Rosyth. The clinic treats dogs, cats, and rabbits, offering vaccinations, surgery, palliative care, and preventative health services.

Established in 2001, the practice places a strong emphasis on preventative medicine and early intervention. Vetrica aims to maintain an informal, relaxed clinical environment. The move to the former TSB building on Queensferry Road in Rosyth has provided more space for both clinical work and patient accommodation.

Bob, the owner, doesn't care about animals and what's worse is he thinks he knows it all, when he clearly doesn't. Our rat Bruno had a suspected UTI for a little while which required further treatment. We took him to Vetrica to get some help for him. The experience began with Bob cleaning the table, then he put Bruno on dirty floor instead - no care for possible bacteria from other animals passing to Bruno. We had taken some pee samples which indicated a UTI, which Bob didn't bother to look at. Instead, he just watched Bruno walk on the floor for a little while. After that, with no proper checks or inspections, he prescribed Baytril, with no explanation as to how it would help. For those who don't know, Baytril is a broad spectrum antibiotic that isn't very effective for UTIs. When we questioned why he wouldn't use Septrin (what Bruno was on for the previous 10 days from another vet clinic and showed improvement) he said "well that didn't work did it?" in a very condescending tone. Following our own research, Septrin is more effective for treating UTIs than Baytril. Bob didn't seem to have a care in the world throughout the consultation. He mumbled like a grumpy child the whole time, making it hard to understand whatever he was saying. He didn't come across as friendly and didn't smile once, speaking to us as if we were stupid. I get the idea he doesn't like rats, as he handled Bruno in a way that shows disgust. He clearly just wants the money, even if he has no experience with the species (rats in our case). My girlfriend called the next morning to ask if we can get Bruno prescribed on Septrin. She was told Bob Hesketh is busy and will call back after 11. He never did. I then called them the same day at 1:30pm, then I was put on hold, then the call "dropped". I received no call back. I called back, to be told Bob is on a call and will call back. Again, he never did. Bob is a man that doesn't like to be told he's wrong. He may be a vet, but he has some learning to do if he wants to treat exotic animals properly. We won't be back.
