About

Vets for Pets Clifton is a veterinary practice in the Nottingham area treating small animals, exotics, and farm species. Services include cardiology, dentistry, orthopaedics, diagnostic imaging, emergency cover, and in-house laboratory diagnostics. Grooming and a pet health plan are also offered.

The practice provides laser therapy alongside nutritional consultations, physiotherapy, and nurse clinics. The inclusion of laser therapy and cardiology gives the Clifton branch a somewhat broader clinical toolkit than many standard general practices.

Clifton Vets for Pets is the only place I trust for my cat and dog. They're always so professional and we can tell they care about our animals just as much as we do as the amount of fuss they get from everyone at the practice makes them feel so at home! Everything is explained clearly, so we can make an informed decision about any treatment. I wouldn't take our animals anywhere else.

Hello — if you’re reading this, you’re either checking if you’ve been ripped off or considering joining. This is entirely my experience and not personal — just how things unfolded. If you join the healthcare plan, flea/worm treatments never seem aligned. They’re happy for you to come back 2–3 times a month instead of syncing all pets together. When my tiny Pomchi, Stein, was spayed, I wasn’t told it would be an open spay (I now know keyhole costs extra). She was in serious discomfort for 10 days and the wound was huge for her size — proportionally like a human losing an arm. I challenged it at the time. I simply believe I should’ve been informed beforehand. It felt like a lack of basic due diligence — lots of small things adding up. Now the real issue. Two weeks ago I took my 2-year-old Chihuahua, Chinleena (tiny but believes he’s Usain Bolt and rests his chin on everything), in for what looked like skin between his toe beans. The owner instead diagnosed grade 4 patella luxation and then popped his kneecap in and out in front of me to “show” me. He was screaming and shaking in agony. She almost pretended like it just happened when she was examining him but He had never had knee issues before — since that appointment he’s been limping and it’s dislocated twice. We left in tears having been told he had grade 4 needed a £3,800 surgery plus an £800 X-ray. We got a second opinion: £300 X-ray, mild arthritis (“Bambi legs”), possibly grade 2 later down line ( the worst stage) maybe surgery one day at around half the quoted cost — and not urgent. Goes to show how getting a second opinion really matters: They also specifically highlighted said they would never pop a dog’s knee in and out while awake; it’s normally assessed under GA. I cannot understand why my dog’s knee was manipulated like that without regard for pain. In my opinion, the appointment was highly improper. I’d strongly advise steering clear of the owner. Charlie is lovely though — kind and clearly cares. And if you think I’m exaggerating, just picture Chinleena plotting revenge, tiny legs pumping like Usain Bolt, chin propped dramatically, drafting a petition for better vet ethics. Kind regards, A very pissed-off dog mum
