About

Highland Vet Emergencies is an out-of-hours emergency veterinary service based in Inverness, operating under Independent Vetcare. It provides emergency care for small animals, exotics, and equines, and holds RCVS accreditation.

The service was established as a collaborative venture between several local practices in the Highlands, including Crown Vets, Easter Ross Vets, Inshes Vets, and Wards Veterinary Centre. Rather than individual practices covering their own nights, the shared model ensures a vet and nurse are available at all times, staffed by clinicians drawn from partner practices alongside specialists in out-of-hours work.

Excellent vet centre once we found it. They guided us to them and met us in the car park. The staff were so reassuring and efficient. Everything was so pleasant and easy. Our sandie and her pups got home after a few hours of antibiotic treatment. Lovely to know we've got this vets an hour up the road.

Fantastic. Whilst on holiday over the Christmas period our teckel became unwell with sickness and diarrhoea. She was severely dehydrated and clearly unwell. We drove 1.5hrs and were seen quickly. 1 night admission with tests showed Gastroenteritis. The care and kindness shown by the team were second to none. Highly recommend. Thank you

We took our dog to this vet to be put to sleep after a very difficult few days for her. She had previously had a bad experience where a vet had hurt her leg so she could nip out of fear but she was a small chihuahua with only six teeth. My mum specifically asked that she be wrapped in a blanket to help her feel safe and calm. The vet had difficulty sedating her and sadly she was left alone in the room where we could hear her squealing. My sister went to check what was happening and saw that they had put a muzzle over her head. They tried hiding this from us and it would have been completely hidden had my sister not walked in. Given that our dog had a swollen face from an abscess , I can only imagine the added pain and fear this caused her. When my mum confronted them, the vet apologised, but understandably this did not undo the distress caused. What made this even worse was the follow-up call from a woman who I assume was head vet/managerial status, who was rude and seemed more concerned about the fact that my sister had come into the room, rather than the fact that our dog’s last moments were spent terrified. Some empathy and a less defensive approach would have gone a long way.
