A fantastic team at South Coast Hydrotherapy, they are caring, knowledgable and always put the dog's needs and welfare first. A great facility with a lovely pool, non slip ramp and ample parking so your dog doesn't have to walk far.

The old age question of what one should do with their working life enters ones mind at some point in their existence, I was not the exception. After attempting numerous different career paths, I felt myself wondering what on Earth am I going to do?! It only dawned on me at the beginning of this year that, not only does my fiancé runs a successful dog grooming business, but I literally live/work so my three dogs can have a the best life possible. My whole life was surrounded by canine companions so it was about time to give back to a species that has given me so much; grooming and rescuing dogs just wasn't enough! I need to do more! I originally reached out to South Coast Hydrotherapy Centre to find out more about the industry and the pathways into a career. My knowledge of canine hydrotherapy was very minimal however it was something that appealed to me. From this initial contact I knew was dealing with industry experts. They talked me through what it takes to become a canine hydrotherapist and the qualifications I would need. Fortunately enough, South Coast Hydrotherapy Centre doubles up as a hydrotherapy school so the qualification I would need (ABC Level 3 in Canine Hydrotherapy) they could provide. From this initial discussion they arranged (due to lockdown procedures) a number of phone consultations to explain what the course entailed from both a practical and theoretical aspect. I was concerned that I would not be able to start the course due to the governmental guidelines and therefore would be hindered however, there flexible distance learning package quelled these concerns. Their distance learning course is fantastic. Distance learning sounds daunting but they made it anything but scary! I was sent numerous handouts, coupled with their advice at anytime, to complete an essay based portfolio which centred around 9 mandatory units and 1 optional unit. These units covered array of subject matter from the science of water, canine anatomy, common canine conditions, water management and many more. The course is designed in way that it arms you with a repertoire of skills and knowledge so when you are ready for practical assessment it is as comfortable as possible. The practical aspect of the distance learning course is a 2 week experience in which you get hands on with patients from the outset. The 2 week practical assessment covers a variety of subjects including hydrotherapy techniques in both the pool and underwater treadmill, first aid, water management and so much more. From my research, South Coast Hydrotherapy Centre are the only hydrotherapy school that guarantee 40 hours hands on swimming with patients with varying conditions, ages and breeds. It was so refreshing, having been on many courses and completed many exams, that this course was designed to prepare you for the industry and for work in a canine hydrotherapy setting as opposed to passing an assessment. Not to mention the people at South Coast Hydrotherapy Centre are so welcoming, friendly and knowledgeable so I knew everyday was going to be a good day! If you are in any doubt about whether canine hydrotherapy is for you, contact South Coast Hydrotherapy Centre. They even do taster days so you can dip your toe in (pardon the pun) and find out what it is all about! On a side note, if you aren't looking to train as a canine hydrotherapist and are interested in their services for your dog, most definitely give them a call. As I previously mentioned they have a fantastic team with a professional can do attitude, state of the art facilities and industry leading knowledge. All of this combined will ensure sure your dog is in safe hands. Thank you so much Dani, Emma, Steph and of course Dolly, Fern and Rex for a life changing experience that I will never forget and will most certainly treasure.
