About

It's the Vets is an independent small animal practice in Plymouth, also treating exotic species. Services include dental care, surgery, diagnostic imaging, laboratory work, nutritional advice, and emergency cover, with nurse-led clinics forming part of the regular appointment schedule.

The practice places emphasis on getting to know each patient individually, beginning with a registration appointment where a nurse assesses the animal's temperament and lifestyle. Treatment plans are then shaped around the individual pet. This structured intake process is a distinguishing feature compared to practices where animals are seen without prior assessment of their specific characteristics.

My first visit to this vets since moving at the start of the year and I'm so impressed. Larissa was wonderul with my dog who needed injections to stop sickness. I was given a very last minute appointment which I assumed might have been rushed but I was given so much more information and reassurance within the time we had. Thank you also to Daisy on reception!

We have been with Its the Vets for many years now and we can honestly say that our dogs (a 14 year old retriever and a 11 year old GMD) wouldn't be with us now if it wasnt for Larissa and her amazing team. The friendly, informative service we receive from them every time really makes all the difference. Our boys love visiting here, even after both have been through life saving operations, their tails still wag every time. Thankyou so much to you all - we are lucky to have you in Plympton

2 stars go to the staff who have always been very friendly and helpful. Its such a shame that the owner, Larissa, is not. We had a very upsetting experience, I felt personally attacked by her after I asked questions about a very expensive treatment plan suggested for our 9 year old dog, which involved a general anaesthetic to flush his ears out. Trying to balance the financial cost with making the right choices for your pet is becoming increasingly difficult with the rising cost of living, so I did not feel it was inappropriate to ask for more information, to be sure we were making the right choice for us as a family and for our dog. However, the owner of the practice launched into a full blown attack at me, shouting at me and making me feel stupid and terrible for asking. She even said, and I quote “It’s not my fault you bought a dog with allergies”. She explained there was another option, but only if I was happy to live with the risk of my dog going deaf (we think he probably is anyway, due to chronic ear infections), or even dying!! I was made to feel like I didn’t have a choice, she was very angry with me, I have never experienced anything like it in my life! This was totally unprofessional and having read some other reviews, it seems this is not the first time she has done this to customers. I would definitely NOT recommend this practice if you are seeing Larissa, but 10/10 praise for the reception staff who were always lovely!
